Rare Fuel-injected Bel Air Convertible — Nut And Bolt Restoration, Driver Quality

OVERALL CONDITION: Onyx Black paint is a high-quality repaint from a full nut-and-bolt restoration. It's deep and glossy with only minor flaws — a small chip on the hood from a stone and a 1-inch rub mark on the driver's door from the door check. The body is arrow-straight with excellent panel fit — no filler visible. All chrome is re-plated or new and is show quality. The dual mirrors, trim, and emblems are correct. Glass is new all around. The convertible top is correct and in excellent condition — tight fabric, clear rear window. The 14-inch wheels have correct hubcaps and wide whitewall tires that are correct for the era. Interior is red and white — correct and beautifully done. The seats are in excellent condition with correct vinyl and patterns. Door panels are new. The dash is painted correctly with all gauges working — including the clock. The steering wheel is the correct original-style unit. Carpet is new and correct. The interior is near show quality.

ENGINE: 283 CI V8 with Rochester Ramjet fuel injection — rated at 283 HP (1 HP per cubic inch — the first production engine to achieve this). The fuel injection unit has been rebuilt and works correctly. The engine starts instantly — fuel injection means no pumping the throttle. It idles smoothly at 750 RPM — smoother than any carbureted 283. No smoke, no leaks. Compression is 175+ psi across all cylinders — excellent. The cooling system runs at 185°F. The exhaust is stock-style with single exhaust and a correct muffler — quiet and smooth. This is a healthy, correct, fuel-injected 283.

TRANSMISSION: 3-speed manual (column shift). Shifts are smooth and deliberate — you move the lever with purpose. No grinding — the syncros are good. The clutch is new — light engagement, no chatter. The column shifter takes getting used to but works correctly. No slippage.

BRAKES: Manual drum brakes at all four corners — correct for 1957. The pedal is firm and the drums are adequate for the car's performance level. Pad life is 70% front, 80% rear. Parking brake works. These are original-style brakes — fine for cruising, not for aggressive driving.

UNDERCARRIAGE: The frame is fully restored — clean and painted. No rust anywhere. Floor pans are new and painted. The X-frame is solid and straight.
