Motorcar Classics ("we", "us", "our") sells classic and muscle cars, mostly to buyers who are nowhere near our lot. That means you have to hand over contact details before you can do business with us, and this page sets out exactly what happens to them.
1. What we collect
You give us
When you send a message through a form on this site, we receive your first and last name, email address, phone number with country code, your message, and — if you enquired from a car's page or picked one from the list — which vehicle you asked about.
Nothing on this site is required beyond the form. There are no accounts to create and no passwords to remember.
We record automatically
Alongside each message we store the IP address it was sent from and the time it arrived. We use this to spot automated submissions and abuse, not to build a profile of you.
Our web server also keeps standard request logs — page requested, time, IP address, browser type — in the ordinary course of running a website.
What we do not collect
We do not take payment details through this website. We do not ask for a Social Security number, driver's licence number or date of birth here. If a purchase reaches the stage where documents like those are needed, that happens directly between you and our sales staff, not through this site.
2. How we use it
- To answer your enquiry and, where you have asked us to, to keep talking to you about a vehicle.
- To arrange inspections, transport quotes and paperwork for a purchase.
- To keep a record of who we have spoken to and about which car.
- To detect and block spam and abusive submissions.
- To meet record-keeping obligations that apply to vehicle sales.
We do not sell your information. We do not rent, trade or otherwise pass it to anyone who wants to market their own products to you.
If we ever start sending marketing email, it will only go to people who have asked for it, and every message will carry a working unsubscribe link.
3. Who we share it with
We share your information only where it is needed to do the thing you asked us to do:
- Transport companies — your name, delivery address and phone number, so a carrier can arrange and complete a delivery.
- Lenders and insurers — only if you ask us to help arrange financing or insurance, and only what those companies need.
- Our hosting and email providers — who process data on our behalf and under contract.
- Government agencies — titling, registration and tax authorities, where a sale requires it.
- Law enforcement — where we are legally required to, or where we need to protect our rights or someone's safety.
4. Third-party services on this site
Loading this site causes your browser to contact a few outside services. Each one can see your IP address as a result. Their own privacy policies apply to what they do with it.
- Google Fonts — serves the typefaces the site is set in.
- Google Maps — the embedded map on our contact page.
- flagcdn.com — the small country flags in the phone field.
- Zippopotam and OpenStreetMap Nominatim — our shipping calculator sends the ZIP code or city you type to these services to work out a distance. We do not store what you type there.
- YouTube — where a vehicle has a walk-around video linked from its page.
5. Cookies
This site sets one cookie, and only in two situations: it holds the security token that protects our forms from cross-site request forgery, and it keeps our own staff signed in to the admin area. It contains no advertising identifier and no tracking data.
We do not currently run analytics, advertising pixels or third-party tracking cookies. If that changes, this page will be updated first.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them will stop our contact form from submitting, because the security token cannot be checked without one.
6. How long we keep it
Enquiries are kept for as long as we might reasonably still be dealing with you — typically up to three years — after which they are deleted. Records connected to a completed sale are kept for as long as tax and vehicle-titling law requires. Server logs are rotated regularly.
You can ask us to delete your enquiry sooner. See Your rights.
7. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and us is encrypted. The admin area sits behind a password and is rate-limited against guessing. Access to enquiry records is limited to staff who need it.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
8. Your rights
Whatever state you are in, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete your enquiry, unless we are legally required to keep it.
- Stop contacting you.
Email us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days. We will not charge you for making a request, and we will not treat you differently for having made one.
Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other states with privacy statutes may have additional rights under those laws, including the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it.
9. Children
This site is meant for adults buying vehicles. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us their details, contact us and we will delete them.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this page. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects how we handle information we already hold, we will make that clear rather than quietly editing the text.
